Hand-drawn Clipart vs. purchased Clipart for Your Patterns

As a designer or illustrator, hand-drawn clipart are crucial for creating amazing patterns. Whether you’re creating patterns for personal use or for sale, having high-quality and in best case hand-drawn clipart is crucial for your success. But with so many resources available online, you might also consider to buy clipart. After all this leads to success (aka creating patterns) much faster. So what is the best option for your business?

  • Draw Your Own Clipart
One of the best ways to ensure that your clipart is unique is to draw it yourself. Whether you use traditional pen and paper or digital tools like Procreate, drawing your own clipart allows you to create exactly what you need. It also gives you the freedom to create one-of-a-kind clipart that nobody else has.

Having that said there are many resources online where you can buy your clipart or even get them for free. Here are just three of them:

  • Design Cuts
Design Cuts is a website that offers a variety of design resources, including clipart. They offer affordable bundles of clipart and other design assets from a variety of talented designers. Their bundles often include a mix of vector and raster clipart, making them perfect for creating digital patterns or printable designs.
  • Creative Market
Creative Market is a popular online marketplace for design resources, including clipart. They offer a wide range of clipart styles, from hand-drawn to vector graphics, and everything in between. Just be sure to read the license agreement before purchasing to make sure it fits your needs because each designer has her own license.
  • Freepik or Pixabay
Freepik as well as Pixabay are websites that offer a large collection of free and premium design resources, including clipart. They offer a wide range of clipart styles, from hand-drawn to vector graphics, making it easy to find the perfect clipart for your pattern. Whether you choose to purchase bundles from Design Cuts or Creative Market, or browse Etsy or Freepik and Pixabay, there’s no shortage of options. By taking the time to finding the right clipart for your patterns, you can create designs that stand out and catch the eye of potential customers.
But please keep in mind: If you don't draw the clipart yourself most probably a good amount of people already use whatever you have found.
Having said that you can always modify whatever you have purchased or downloaded. Don't use things as they are. You can recolor, modify and rearrange elements to create something unique.

So as a conclusion you can say that the best option is to draw clipart yourself. Then you make sure that whatever you create is really unique and nobody else has what you have. But, in case you don't wanna draw yourself you have the option to modify whatever you have downloaded.
