Exclamation Getting Your Layouts into the Threads - Updated Instructions

Here's a text version of steps to follow, and below that some screen shots --

Linking a Gallery Image into a Thread

After completing a challenge, you’ll need to go into the challenge forum thread to link back to the LO in your gallery.

First, you'll need to upload your image to the appropriate challenge gallery (image size = 600 x 600 pixels and 125K max) and leave that gallery page with the large looking image open in your browser. Open a second browser window, navigate to the challenge forum thread, and click "Reply to Thread".

For Firefox: Right click on the large image, and select Copy Image Location.

For Internet Explorer: Right click on the large image, and select Properties. Select the entire Address/Url (starting with http :// and ending after jpg). Press Ctrl C to copy the Url and then click Cancel.

Second: this step will past a copy of your layout into the thread

    1. Leaving your gallery window open, go to the forum thread you opened in a new window (see the Note above). Click Reply
    2. Click the insertimage..png (insert image) icon. Select the second tab, "From URL".
The existing text (the http: //) should already be selected; if not, select it now.

    3. Press Ctrl V to paste in the image location over the existing text.

    4. Uncheck the box below the url slot that says, "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"

Third: this will step will link the layout image in the thread back to your gallery page.

    1. Go back to the window containing your large gallery image. (If you don't see your page as a large image, but see only the small thumbnails -- click on the gallery thumbnail to go to your layout page)

    2. Select the Url in your browser’s address bar at the top of the page, and press Ctrl C to copy it.

    3. Go back to the window containing the forum thread, click once right on top of your layout image to select it, and click the createlink..png(insert link) icon. The existing text in the pop up box (the http: //) should already be selected; if not, do so now.

    4. Press Ctrl V to paste in your gallery url, and click OK.

You’re done! You’ve pasted in a copy of your LO and linked it to your gallery!

The first images apply if you use Firefox --

First step: Posting your image in the Forum

Select the tab, "From URL". Uncheck the box below the url slot that says, "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"

    Step 2: Link Image

Start here if you use Internet Explorer, then see Step 2 just above.

Janet for Firefox I do the same as what you describe for Internet Explorer, I go to properties to get the image link.
I had found that if you click on the large image in the gallery when you go to link it to the URL in the little box in the forum it tells you that the image is too large even if it's under 100kb. I don't know if it's just me that has that problem but that's why I use the small thumbnail in the gallery instead. Also I found if you upload the image from your computer it only gives you a pop up of the image.
Thanks for updating the tutorial Janet.

Thanks, but what happens if I get the message "File is too large"?? This happens to me all the time (since you moved your server to the new host), so I cannot post any more images in threads

    Thanks for helping out!
    Love and scrapping,
    Feli

Feli I have the same problem with it saying that my image is too large, that's why I only use the small thumbnail image, it will accept that.

Ladies, I can't take credit for the update, dear Monica did the screenshots and updated the text today! (I'm at work shhhhh -- and have exactly the same issues you are having)

Hopefully this will take care of the problems, and will help me so much trying to see and comment on all your lovely layouts!!

So, THANK YOU, Monica, for doing the update for us.
