Who felt them? Everyone okay? We just got rocked a bit by the one in VA, and I'm in Delaware - was right there in VA yesterday though! I've been told its been felt as far North as Canada, and as far South as the Carolina's.Colorado had one last night I heard.

I just posted a message too Jodie. My daughter was at work when it hit, plaster falling from the ceilings.
I've tried to call Janet and Sharon who I know work near where my daughter does. Cell phones and the internet are down.

Around here it seems you can call a cell from a landline but not cell to cell.

I'm ok, no one hurt here, and as far as I know, we haven't had any damage. I was sitting on my chair with construction equipment out my window thinking that was a lot of vibration from the machinery, but it just went on and on. Then it dawned on me that it was an earthquake!

I am on the phone with Sharon now, she is accounted for and okay.
She'll get online later when she gets home.

Janet I tried calling you with no luck.

You ladies had me worried there with this earthquake.
So relieved that you both are okay.

I'm way down here in Texas and the ground is being nice and still. :)
So good to hear from those of you in the area that has been rocked.
Stay safe!

Here I am - safe and sound. But I must admit I had weak knees for a bit. I work on the 3rd floor of an 8 story building. I used to work on the 8th floor but today was really glad I was lower. We had a little tremor and then the whole building started to shake - file cabinets rattling - windows rattling. We thought pictures were coming off the wall but nothing actually came down. I one of our wings there were ceiling tiles that either came loose or fell - not sure. We were evacuated for about 45 minutes and then were able to go back in. We didn't have phone service at home but that is all OK now. When everything was rattling and shaking you realize that this is something that you have no control over - you can't stop the shaking or what might be the result. I'm glad no one was hurt and very little damage in the area.

Glad you are OK Janet!!!

Elaine called and we had a great chat - don't wait til the next earthquake to call me! LOL!!!!

Watch out for Irene, Elaine. Get out before the traffic hits and keep safe!

Looking at the usgs web page, there are reports from 5218 zip codes, 27 cities and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In DE, we could feel it, lights and doors swayed but not a lot of damage. Waiting for the next one. There was one in NY state as well at 10:30 AM but a 2.3 which would be difficult to feel unless it was right at the surface. I think the one in Mineral was fairly shallow at 3.7 miles and because our geology is so different from the west coast the tremor carried much further- Canada, MA, GA, OH, and Chicago. Go figure. I surely didn't feel Colorado's in the middle of the night. Fault lines run everywhere and right now, if I lived on the New Madrid fault, I think I'd be taking a vacation a bit away from there! Those of us on the east coast are watching Irene but the midwest best keep an eye on the fault lines - lol- I hope. Glad all are safe and sound

Correction, I transposed numbers. That should be 3518 zip codes and 27 cities.

Sharon, glad you are ok and made it through without any damage. We found some ceiling tiles loosened and a couple of light panels popped open in the building, but nothing else really.

And it's amazing how far up and down the east coast the tremors carried -- crazy! I felt a couple more aftershocks this afternoon, but seems to be quiet now.

Glad things are quieted down now. Michelle didn't get home until 8:30 tonight, she walked through the house checking things and didn't see any damage. She said they were all shaking pretty bad from the quake.

Don't worry Sharon I'll try not to wait to call you until the next earthquake, praying there isn't another one.

We heard it hit here to, we were out with the boat on one of the Barrier Islands, didn't feel a thing, but the waves got very strong all of a sudden, unusual, now we think that the earthquake might be why.

I'm so glad all of you are all right. It's just one thing after another. I have family in Toronto and they felt it there - that's quite a ways! Mother earth is not happy these days - and not hurricane season is starting. I don't have a good feeling about this year, and they're always talking we're overdue for the "big one" here on the west coast. I'm afraid it's going to be our turn pretty soon. Stay safe everyone!
