View Full Version : To Carena and her fellow Countrymen

I know you do not live in Christ Church but I hope you and your extended family are well and know that our prayers are with you all. It is hard to beleive that this was an after shock to Septembers quake. Given Eastern Russia had a large quake in the last 48 hours, its doubtful but I do pray all is well with you and your extended family.

Just now tuned in to the world this morning and saw this about the earthquake in New Zealand. Sending prayers to all in this devastation.
Carena ... thinking of your and yours. Went to map of New Zealand but not sure where you are. Be safe my friend.

I spoke briefly with Monja, and she said that Carena is over 100 kilometers away from there. But the images were so terrible on the news this morning! Praying for all the Kiwis!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your extended family. I hope you are all safe after the devastating earthquake that rocked New Zealand yesterday!

Doing the math, Janet ... over 62 miles. I have to do the conversion to get the feel for the distance.
Hoping for news from Carena soon if possible

Hi Everyone - Thanks so much for your thoughts and love. I and my family are all safe - we are in Nelson and actually didn't feel the 6.3 earthquake at all. I put map here so you can see where we are.
This morning there are people still trapped that are alive as they are texting and calling from mobile phones. 17 major after shocks since the main one yesterday and they are all around 4.5 which is making rescue so much more difficult.
Just seen on news that this one although just 6.3 and 5 kilometers deep is actually far far worse than the one in Sept which was over 7 because the Sept one was 30 kilometers deep. They said that the movement on the ground level was actually 3 times worse than Sept.
The main city of Christchurch is closed and guarded by police to keep people out. Many without power and water.
I just hope they can get all survivors out and that none more loose their life while waiting for rescue because of aftershocks that continue.
Thanks so much for all your love and concern for myself and Kiwi's in general. I can't tell you how much this thread has meant to me and how I feel the love across the world.

Carena ... so good to hear from you. Even learning you were not close, we needed to hear from you. :)
I have pulled maps of New Zealand. For me, it helps to see! I'm glad you attached one, too.
God bless everyone involved in this disaster. I pray for speed and success for the rescuers.
OMG Carena, I am so very relieved to hear from you.
I cannot get over the devastation and all those poor people still trapped.
Still praying the all get out safe. Their families must be sitting and anxiously
awaiting any news at all, prayers go to the families as well.

Just been over at our next door neighbors - She has her daughters family (hubby & 2 kids) and she is approx 32 week pregnant, they are all coming up to Nelson to get away from everything down there. Her 2 girls are extremely frightened - her oldest girl 9 years old actually fell down stairs at her school during the earthquake but is OK. I'm very pleased that they are coming up here.
I don't seem to be able to settle down to doing anything - we have the news on TV and sit waiting to hear good news.
They have 15 people in a pocket and seems are alive but they haven't been able to reach them yet and still more strong aftershocks.
55 identified dead and further 20 unidentified reported on the news - reports of 300 missing.
02-23-2011, 01:12 AM
Its good to hear back from you. I was begining to worry! Stay safe. We'll all pray for those in Christ Church and their famililes.

There are rescue crews on their way from all over but it will take a while. They've had enough experience in Haiti and NYC at this point to be effective but distance is the enemy. I wish there was something we could do from here. We'll keep those in Christ Church and their families in our prayers and hope the ground stops moving so they can get to those trapped soon. I have a quake monitor on my computer and it appears like there continues to be a lot of activity there. Stay safe and let us know if we can do something for you.

So happy you all are safe and away from the quake. I know how you feel, just glued to the TV to see the news. It's a horrible tragedy for all of New Zealand, and we extend our condolences and wishes for the best possible outcome for all those still trapped.

I've been thinking about you and your family Carena. I was pretty sure you were far enough away to be safe, but I am happy to read this and know for sure. This is so devasating my heart goes out to your fellow countrymen and prayers for all those lost and their families.

So glad to hear you are ok Carena. I was worried when I heard about the quake.

Thanks everyone for all your wonderful comments and love.
As I'm a scout leader - I heard that after this weekend we are making all the scout tents available to the Christchurch people that want to get away and come up here to Nelson for a while. They are going to be set up near us here in a paddock (field) next to a hall. Some of the people desperately need to just get away and have confidence to sleep without the earth shaking under them. Our scout group will be glad to help in whatever little way we can.
Thanks again for all your comments - My heart swells to know that so many people do care.
Last night our zone had a zone meeting of all cubs in the area - we had a MEGA Water Fight and a lot of fun and games. At the same time we were wasting so much water - my thoughts did go the the Christchurch people who about 1/2 of them don't have access to running drinking water and are getting water from tankers. So so many with no water or electricity. So different - feels worlds apart and yet so close. Does make you stop and think.
I'll not be around the forum tomorrow (our Saturday - your Friday as we are a day ahead of most) We have a Founders Day Mudslide weekend and camping overnight with 14 cubs. There is 16 scouts camping 2 nights also a number of Kea's going for the day. Should be a fun action packed weekend. Makes me feel a little guilty when others are having it so hard right now. Life goes on but you can't help but feel a little guilty.
Sorry for my ramblings - just thinking out loud so to speak. Hugs

So glad to hear you are safe Carena. Life must go on, and the children need this weekend to reinforce that life is OK where they are.
Enjoy your time as much as you can.
So sorry for my late reaction.
Carena so glad to hear you and your family are ok. So painfull for all the people who live there.
Are their other girls living in New zeeland? are you ok?

So glad to hear that you and your loved ones are o.k.! My thoughts and prayers are with all the Kiwis who are affected by this terrible tragedy! But as you rightly say, life must go on and I do believe that the kiddies need to have a sense of normality to cope with what's happened.
Great big hug

Only 65% of Water is restored - Last time I heard 55,000 still without running water.
700 buildings facing demolition

hi there careana and friends. Its just so devasting. My two sisters who were in chch are staying hre with us in oamaru for a week or so just to have time to relex they are quite stressed and one sister has lost her house its been red stickered and is unliveable but she said they will rebuild again in chch. So At least there is hope for them. In the meantime enjoying having family time and just supporting and being there for them. Thanks for the nice regards.
