We know, we know, you can’t believe Christmas is already over. Soon another celebration, which is the New Year, will be over too even before we know it. Oh well, time flies really fast when we are having fun, isn’t that so? After all that hurly burly of a season don’t forget to organise the photos you’ve taken from the holidays and make some awesome digital scrapbooks for you to remember the happy holidays. And while you’re at it, you can learn a new trick to spruce up those super duper fun pages. We’re more than willing to share with you an awesome tutorial and that is – how to make Funky Striped Papers for your Digital Scrapbooking Layouts.
Funky striped paper backgrounds are pretty easy to make. Just follow the steps below and you’ll be doing your own designs in no time. Basically, you need an image editor like Adobe Photoshop to do that, for this demonstration we will be showing the procedure in its CS 5 version.
Funky Striped Papers
Start by creating a new file. The size of your canvass is up to you. As a personal standard, I will be making mine in 12 inches x 12 inches dimension with a resolution of 300 pixels using the default RGB Color Mode and Transparent background.
You can increase each image by clicking on it so you can easily see all settings used.
Once your canvass is okay, look for the Gradient Tool on the side tool bar and then click it to activate.
You’ll see at the options bar (located just below the main menu) the Gradient Selector.
Click on that rectangle to change the settings of the gradient. We need to modify the settings into these:
Gradient Type – Noise
Roughness – 100%
Now it’s time to change the colours. Underneath is the Color Model where you’ll be able to refine the hues of the stripes you will use. Move the sliders of the Red, Green and Blue hues to get the colour style that fits your liking. When you’re done, click OK to apply the changes.
By default, Adobe Photoshop selects the gradient direction in the linear mode. Just check if it is the one active among the choices. If not, click the Linear Gradient to select.
To apply the colours gradient stripes, hold down your Shift key and then click and move your mouse cursor starting from the upper left corner towards the bottom right. While doing this, you’ll notice that a diagonal line is being drawn as you move your cursor, once you’ve reached the other end, release the mouse.
You’ll see that the striped pattern is now applied to the canvass.
Works like magic!
At this instance you can keep the striped paper as your background for the scrapbook layout you have at hand. Just add some more papers, elements and photos and you’re good to go.
